- Purpose of School
MUSS is a public, government-funded specialized school under the Agency for Presidential, Specialized and Creativity Schools (the Agency) in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The focus of MUSS is the study of physics, math, astronomy, IT, and English.
MUSS is a secondary school, accepting students into its programs from grades 7-11. Students graduate MUSS with a national diploma. MUSS is a dual language school, in which students may study in either Uzbek or Russian. Admission to the program is selective based on examination results.
- Procedure
Each summer the Agency advertises the examination dates and application procedures on its website, the school’s website and in mass media. Examination dates are also posted at the front of the school building.
Applicants who have submitted required documentation, including proof of age and previous school transcripts, are invited to the examination session, which is monitored internally and externally. The examination is available in Uzbek and Russian. Applicants may choose the examination language.
Results of the application process are published within 20 days of the examination through the school’s website and social media channels. An appeals process organized by a special commission is established to transparently answer complaints and challenges to the results.
Student admission offers are established by test ranking. If a student does not accept the admission invitation, the next student on the waiting list will be given the offer. The admissions process is for the entering grade 7 students; however the same admissions process with a grade-appropriate modified examination is held if the school determines to have openings in the upper grades.
- Qualification
MUSS accepts students to the school based on their age, completion of the 6th grade, verification of provided documents, language ability in either Uzbek or Russian, and the results of the admissions examination.
- Non-discrimination statement
MUSS accepts all students who meet the qualifications for study at the school. MUSS has a strict non-discrimination statement to welcome all students regardless of home language, nationality, culture or ethnicity.
- Inclusion statement
MUSS is a selective admissions school, and publicizes the nature of the school transparently to ensure that the community understands the strict entrance requirements. Once admitted to MUSS, all students in grades 7-9 are invited to participate in the IBMYP.
Physical disability
MUSS practices align with legislation governing children with disabilities (RUz Q-PS638, 2019), and welcomes all children within the range of accommodations and modifications expected for public schools.
Academic, social and emotional challenges
If a student is discovered to have an academic, social or emotional challenge that affects the ability of that student to be successful at MUSS, psychological, counseling and learning support is provided. If after thorough case review the school determines that the needs of the child are beyond the reasonable resources of the school, a family discussion is held to discuss the transfer of the child to a facility that would provide needed support.
Mechanism for support
Students who are identified as in need of support are referred to the Deputy Director for Spiritual Affairs (DDSA), who evaluates the specific area of need and refers the case to the psychologist, counselor or subject specialist for further action. The DDSA informs the class teacher in writing of the referral, and transfers the case management to the class teacher.
The class teacher collaborates with specialist staff to plan specific interventions and support, and transfers this information if appropriate to the teaching staff. The class teacher is responsible to report progress to the DDSA regularly to determine whether support should continue, increase or stop.
In the event of complex cases, the DDSA will organize a meeting with specialist staff and the class teacher to plan an integrated approach to student support, and will maintain the management of the case.
